外观与性状：白色针状晶体或毛状结晶性粉末。
溶解性：易溶于乙醇、乙醚、氯仿，微溶于水，在沸水中溶解。
溶解度：ethanol（乙醇）: 1M （1mol/L） at 20 °C, clear, colorless
化学性质
常温下稳定。急剧加热分解为苯酚和二氧化碳。具有部分酸的通性。
本品刺激皮肤、黏膜,因能与机体组织中的蛋白质发生反应,所以有腐蚀作用。能使角膜增殖后剥离。其毒性比苯酚弱,但大量服用能引起呕吐、腹泻、头痛、出汗、皮疹、呼吸频促、酸中毒症和兴奋。 [2] 外观白色粉末，允许略带黄色和粉红色

作用与用途编辑
1、碱量法及碘量法滴定的标准。荧光指示剂，络合指示剂。

7、用作环氧树脂固化的促进剂，也可作为防腐剂。可用来制备水杨酸甲酯、水杨酸乙酯等合成香料。染料工业用作制备直接染料及酸性染料等的原料。还可用作橡胶防焦剂、消毒剂等。
